The focus of this program is to make running an enjoyable experience for kids! Participants can look forward to a fun-filled session every week. The class will begin indoors with various games and drills to develop running skills and body awareness. Following that, we’ll take the fun outdoors and explore the beauty of nature trails and local parks while learning the joy of running. Endurance, athleticism and movement skills will be honed in a positive and upbeat atmosphere.

Teens on the Run

During practices, appropriate training for XC and track will be provided, tailored to the age of the participants. The primary focus will be on enjoying the learning process while emphasizing the development of sound running mechanics, endurance, and confidence through athleticism. The team will explore local wilderness trails, train on hills and the track, and utilize fun circuits and drills to develop strength and conditioning. Essential skills such as posture and proper breathing techniques will also be covered, establishing a foundation of healthy habits for optimal performance in running and all other aspects of life for the long term.

Can I miss a practice?
We recognize that your schedule may be full; therefore, attending all practices is not mandatory. Nevertheless, we hope that you will choose to join the team for the weekly runs.
Is there a prerequisite level of experience required to become a member?
No, there are no tryouts necessary. We welcome athletes of all levels and anticipate a diverse range of abilities. Participants will be accommodated according to their current level of fitness.
May I invite a friend to try it out and see if they enjoy it?
Absolutely, please feel free to invite your friends. We would be delighted to have them participate in a group practice to determine if it is a good match.
Marilyn Arsenault, ChPC
Marilyn is an accomplished coach and athlete who holds National Masters records both on the track and road. She is a four-time National team member making these teams as a 40+ year old athlete. Marilyn has taught runners of all levels to run with skill since 2010 through her popular Mindful Strides classes. Marilyn emphasizes mastering proper techniques to prevent injury and improve efficiency. She draws parallels between running and other disciplines, such as music, in which she is also trained having completed her BMus in voice performance from McGill University. As a varsity athlete, Marilyn achieved All Canadian status in both cross-country and track, earning a bronze medal at CIs (now USport). She is a certified NCCP Level-3 performance coach and a Chartered Professional Coach. Since 2016, Marilyn has served as an assistant coach at the University of Victoria.
Marilyn has successfully fulfilled coaching apprenticeship programs under the auspices of ALTIS and presently receives mentorship from the esteemed coach Dan Pfaff.
Erin Sask
Erin is a dedicated teacher at Brookes Westshore and has been coaching high school athletes worldwide since 2009. With a background as an ex-CIS (USport) varsity athlete and All-Canadian cross country runner, Erin possesses a unique insight into what it takes to set personal goals, work diligently towards them and ultimately succeed. She has a strong interest in studying biomechanics and is a certified yoga instructor. Erin aims to instill in all athletes a deep appreciation for sports and a commitment to leading a healthy and balanced lifestyle for life.
Tiffany Evans
Tiffany, a former elite Triathlete, has an illustrious 20-year career as an educator and coach at Belmont Secondary School. She passionately guides and mentors aspiring athletes, leading women’s run sessions and triathlon programs in the community.
Tiffany’s infectious enthusiasm motivates young athletes, encouraging them to embrace physical activity for a healthy lifestyle. Notably, she achieved All-Canadian status as a cross-country runner during her five-year involvement with the Vikes cross country and track program.
